Ode to Quezon
How does dining like a
president sound to you? When I first learned that I’m about to
experience such a unique food trip, it seemed that my taste buds
couldn’t wait a day more. Forget the continental breakfast. I’m about
to have a presidential breakfast.
It
all started with a simple online search that led me to the Facebook
page of the Malacañang Food and Heritage Tours. As the name suggests,
the tour package consists of a guided tour inside the walls of the
Philippines’ presidential residence as well as a gastronomic delight
where one would be served the favorite breakfast meals of some of the
past and current presidents of the country. The package offers a
one-of-a-kind dining experience at the posh Casa Roces Restaurant that
stands just across the former Malacañang Press Office Building at the
corner of JP Laurel and Aguado Streets. One can choose from the
following breakfast sets: Ilocandia Flair, Ilustrado Comfort, Maharlika
Platter, Ode to Quezon, and PNoy Power Brunch.
We
were served the Ode to Quezon and PNoy Power Brunch after a marvelous
tour inside the Malacañan Palace. The Ode to Quezon is an
East-meets-West set meal that includes sausages, bacon, and eggs.
Meanwhile, the PNoy Power Brunch is a delicious Filipino treat with
crunchy danggit (dried fish), sweet and salty beef tapa, eggplant slices, and garlic rice. Afterwards, a fruit platter was served along with a glass of non-alcoholic sangria.
PNoy Power Brunch
The
dining experience at Casa Roces Restaurant was definitely a great break
from an extensive tour inside the Malacañan Palace. The Php 750 per
head tour is inclusive of an optional tour inside the Casa Roces
Restaurant, along with its function rooms named after the national
newspapers that Chino Roces headed. Apart from the wide selection of
“presidential” breakfast meals, the fine dining restaurant is also known
for its delectable pastry selections and lush interiors.
